Here's something special that most visitors to Kailua never discover – the Aloha 'Aina E-Bike Adventure that lets you truly connect with our land while giving back to the community. This four-hour voluntourism experience goes way beyond typical tourist activities, combining cultural immersion and wildlife viewing with meaningful restoration work alongside local ohana.
Starting at our Kailua storefront, you'll get fitted with e-bikes and learn safety basics before pedaling through neighborhood streets most tourists never see. The scenic Marsh Trail leads to an ancient Hawaiian cultural site where the real magic happens – hands-on hana working directly with community members and your experienced guide.
Depending on the day's needs, you might find yourself weeding lo'i kalo (taro patches) with your feet in the mud or doing drier tasks like garden weeding and mulching. Either way, you'll gain authentic insight into traditional Hawaiian land stewardship that's been practiced for generations. Along the marsh trail, keep your eyes open for unique wildlife while learning local history and culture from guides who actually live here.
After completing the restoration work, everyone gathers for lunch featuring genuine local food favorites – not the watered-down tourist version. Then it's a relaxing cruise back to the storefront with that satisfying feeling of having made a real difference.
The Aloha 'Aina E-Bike Adventure accommodates maximum 14 people, ensuring intimate connections with both land and community. Riders must be 16 or older for independent e-biking, while children 8 and under can join in bike trailers with parents. Come prepared for manual labor in clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Your adventure includes the e-bike experience, expert guide, lunch, and volunteer activities. Bring closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, hat, and work gloves (available for purchase at the storefront). Check-in starts 30 minutes before departure at 134b Hamakua Drive, with 48-hour cancellation policy for full refunds.
