Self-guided Lanikai Adventure: E-Bike, Pillbox Hike and Snorkel

This self-guided adventure starts at the Active Oahu Tours storefront on Hamakua Drive in Kailua, so no car is needed to get there. From the shop, riders take e-bikes through Lanikai's bike lanes to the Pillbox Hike trailhead. The trail is moderately challenging and leads up through rugged terrain to WWII pillboxes at the summit, where views stretch across Kailua, Lanikai Beach, and the coastline. After the hike, a short ride brings guests to Lanikai Beach, where the included snorkeling gear, life vests, and dry bags let them explore the calm, shallow water at their own pace. When ready, riders can head into Kailua Town to try local restaurants before returning gear at the storefront.

All equipment is provided: e-bikes, helmets, snorkeling gear, life vests, dry bags, and biodegradable defog for masks. Guides at the shop can suggest routes and dining spots based on conditions and preferences. Guests should bring reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a towel, and shoes that work for both hiking and water activities.
