Oahu mornings move fast, and the south shore is where you want to be before the crowds catch up. From $100, Hawaii Surf Guru runs their early bird discount beginner group lesson at 7am and 9am only - two windows that get you in the water while most visitors are still figuring out breakfast. Hawaii Surf Guru is a Native Hawaiian company, and that authenticity runs through everything they do.

The 90-minute lesson is built for genuine beginners. On the beach, you'll go through water safety, how to pop up, and how to stand on a board - no rushing into the surf until you've covered the basics. Once you're in the water, the instruction shifts to breathing, paddling, and actual surfing technique. Hawaii Surf Guru caps each session at 20 students with a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio, so this is a group setting, and depending on demand your group may be combined with others. They've been teaching at this location for 15 years - the instructor learned to surf here himself at age 7 - and they're licensed, insured, and First Aid/CPR certified.

Everything you need is included - a wetsuit top, booties, a flotation vest if needed, and a board matched to your age, height, and weight. Storage for your belongings is provided during the lesson, and you're welcome to bring your own gear if you have it. Show up at least 15 minutes early to get fitted and stow your stuff; latecomers may not be able to join, and sessions that start late will still end on time. Sunscreen is on you.

Age range is 14 to 100. Slots fill, so lock in your spot ahead of time. For an Oahu morning that actually starts somewhere useful, this is a solid first move.
