If you're serious about learning to surf in Waikiki, Ty Gurney Surf School's Session Package Honolulu is where locals send their friends. You prepay for two or more lessons and save money while learning from instructors who've been teaching these breaks longer than most people have been visiting.

Here's what makes this different: while other schools crowd beginners into the whitewater, Ty's crew takes you to the real lineup where the best and longest waves actually break. These 1-2 hour sessions work for everyone from groms as young as 2 to grandparents pushing 99.

The magic happens with their student-to-instructor ratio—never more than 2 students per teacher. That means you're not fighting for attention in a pack of six wannabe surfers. Every minute counts when you're in the water, and their instructors (all current CPR, Ocean Lifeguard, and First Aid certified) make sure you're riding waves, not just treading water.

You'll start with a land lesson covering basics and safety before paddling out into the Pacific. All gear comes included—boards, rash guards, and a secure spot for your stuff while you're getting worked by the waves. Meet at 205 Lewers Street, and you're learning from instructors who can actually surf, not just teach.

The session package Honolulu booking requires 48-hour notice for full refunds (72 hours for groups of 9+). Reschedule between 48 and 4 hours out, and you'll pay a 20% fee. Photos and videos are available but book them ahead of time—and yes, tips are always appreciated but never required.
