About This Place

The Waikīkī Aquarium is on Kalakaua Avenue, on the shoreline in Kapiʻolani Park, within walking distance of Waikīkī Beach and in the shadow of Diamond Head State Monument. It opened as the Honolulu Aquarium, a commercial venture of the Honolulu Rapid Transit and Land Company, before the University of Hawaiʻi took over its administration. It is open while undergoing renovations. Exhibits include the Hawaiian Monk Seal Habitat and the outdoor Edge of the Reef. Buy tickets at the front desk when you arrive, and each paid admission includes the free mobile audio guide. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Park at the meters on the park side of Kalakaua Avenue, where a very limited number of free stalls in front of the entrance are kept for aquarium visitors, and on busy days the admission desk has parking passes. TheBus and the Waikīkī Trolley Green line also reach the aquarium. The facility is smoke-free, and pets and comfort therapy animals are not allowed.
