About this experience
The lesson begins on the beach with a safety briefing covering ocean conditions and the basics of the surf spot. From there, participants learn how to pop up on the board, find their balance, and stand in the correct stance for riding waves.
Once the beach portion wraps up, the instructor leads participants into the water to practice paddling, catching waves, and standing up. The instructor works on timing and positioning throughout the in-water session to help build comfort and confidence.
The meeting location is either Puaena Point Beach Park or Chuns Reef Beach on the north shore of Oahu, and the specific spot is confirmed before the lesson based on surf conditions. A surfboard and rash guard are provided. Participants should bring a swimsuit, towel, reef-safe sunscreen, and water. Reef shoes are optional. A life jacket is available on request; just notify the operator in advance.
