Ohana Surf Lesson

The Ohana Surf Lesson from Jamie O'Brien School of Surf starts and ends at the surf shop on the ground floor of the Twin Fin Hotel on Kalakaua Avenue in Honolulu. The lesson is designed for families and groups of friends learning to surf together. It opens with a personalized land session where an instructor covers paddling, stance, wave selection, and how to pop up on a board. The group then moves into the ocean, where a low guest-to-instructor ratio keeps coaching attentive and hands-on throughout.

The lesson includes a surfboard, fins, leash, rash guard, and reef shoes. Guests should bring a swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen. Secure lockers are available at the shop for storing belongings. Valet parking at the Twin Fin Hotel and self-parking at the Honolulu Zoo are both options for arriving by car. Guests who are prone to motion sickness may want to take medication before heading into the water. Ocean activities call for full concentration, so anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be asked to reschedule for safety reasons.
