The Private Surf Lesson from Jamie O'Brien School of Surf meets at the surf shop on the ground floor of the Twin Fin Hotel on Kalakaua Avenue in Honolulu. The lesson starts on land, where a dedicated professional guide covers paddling, stance, ocean safety, wave selection, and how to pop up, adjusting to the student's skill level and learning style. From there, the instructor stays right alongside in the water, giving immediate feedback and coaching throughout.
All equipment is provided, including a beginner-friendly surfboard, rash guard, and reef shoes. Secure lockers are available at the shop for storing belongings. Valet parking at the Twin Fin Hotel is available, or self-parking at the nearby Honolulu Zoo is an option, with a short walk west along Kalakaua Avenue to the shop.
This lesson suits complete beginners as well as younger children who benefit from focused, one-on-one attention. Guests who are prone to motion sickness should plan ahead, and participants are expected to arrive sober, as the operator may turn away anyone visibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
