About This Experience

From December through April, Hawaii Ocean Adventure Tours offers some of the North Shore's most intimate humpback whale encounters. Captain Will runs these private charters directly from Haleiwa Harbor, taking just six guests at a time—which means you'll actually get close enough to witness these magnificent creatures without the crowds that plague larger tour boats.

What sets this whale watching Haleiwa experience apart is the flexibility. With departures running from 6am to 4pm daily throughout the season, you can easily work around your island schedule. Captain Will doubles as your naturalist guide, and his knowledge of humpback behavior is impressive—he'll position the boat perfectly for those spine-tingling moments when a 40-ton whale surfaces just yards away.

You'll choose between two vessels for your 2-hour expedition. The Finnattic is a nimble 24-foot center-console with cushioned bow seats that gets you close to the action. For a bit more comfort, the 33-foot Ilio Kai offers those same bow seats plus a full restroom—nice when you're out on the water with the whole family.

The timing couldn't be better planned. These humpbacks travel thousands of miles to Hawaiian waters specifically to mate, give birth, and nurse their young. December through April is when they're most active in our waters, and whale watching Haleiwa puts you right in their winter playground.

Private charters start from $400 for up to six passengers, reaching $550 depending on your vessel choice. Just remember their 72-hour cancellation policy—deposits become non-refundable unless you have a medical emergency with a doctor's note. Meet at Haleiwa Harbor on Oahu's North Shore for your scheduled departure.
