About this experience
The Keiki Tandem Surf Lesson from North Shore Ohana School of Surfing is designed for young children who feel hesitant about surfing or want extra confidence in the water. Each child shares a surfboard with an instructor, who helps with paddling in and out of the waves and assists with standing up and riding. Falling and riding waves happen as a team, which gives small surfers a secure and supportive introduction to the sport. No previous experience is needed.
The lesson begins on land with a safety briefing before moving into the water for wave riding. A rash guard, leash, surfboard (softtop or epoxy), and a lifejacket are all provided, so no extra gear needs to be brought.
The surf location where the lesson takes place is also noted as a spot where green sea turtles, humpback whales during winter migration, spinner dolphins in summer, reef fish, and manta rays can be seen from the water.
