Ke Iki Beach

HaleiwaNorth Shore Oahu

About This Place

Ke Iki Beach offers a quieter alternative to Oahu's crowded shores, stretching along Haleiwa's north coast with golden sand and turquoise waters. This local favorite sits between more famous surf breaks, giving visitors space to relax without fighting for parking or beach real estate. The beach suits confident swimmers and intermediate surfers. Winter swells from November through March bring powerful 8-12 foot waves that attract experienced surfers, while summer delivers calmer 2-4 foot conditions perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Families with small children should visit between May and September when the ocean remains predictable. Rocky lava sections punctuate the sandy shoreline, creating tide pools worth exploring two hours before and after low tide. The coral reef 100 yards offshore provides decent snorkeling when wave heights stay under 3 feet, but check surf reports before entering the water. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, plenty of water, and snacks since no facilities exist here. Pack an umbrella or pop-up tent for shade - the open beach offers no natural cover. A cooler with ice helps during midday visits when temperatures reach 85-90 degrees. Limited roadside parking along Ke Iki Road fills quickly on weekends and during big surf days. Arrive before 9 AM or after 3 PM for the best chance at a spot. No entry fees apply, but respect private property markers near beachfront homes. Strong currents develop during incoming tides and swells above 6 feet. Stay within 50 yards of shore if you're not a strong swimmer, and always swim with someone else. Wear reef shoes when exploring rocky areas or snorkeling over shallow reefs to prevent coral cuts.
