Ko Olina Beach Park

KapoleiWest Oahu

About This Place

Ko Olina Beach Park sits on Oahu's western shore in Kapolei, featuring four crescent-shaped lagoons protected by rock barriers that create calm, shallow pools perfect for families with young children. The man-made lagoons offer some of the safest swimming conditions on the island, with minimal waves and gentle currents that make snorkeling easy for beginners. The beach attracts families, resort guests from nearby hotels, and locals seeking a more relaxed alternative to crowded Waikiki. Each lagoon has soft white sand and clear turquoise water, though Lagoon 1 tends to be the most popular and busiest. The protected waters rarely exceed chest-deep, making supervision of children easier than at most Hawaiian beaches. Free parking fills up quickly, especially on weekends, so arrive before 9 AM to secure a spot. The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset, with restrooms, outdoor showers, and some shade from palm trees available. Bring an umbrella or tent for extended stays since shade is limited. Pack reef-safe sunscreen, snorkel gear, and plenty of water as the western location gets intense afternoon sun between 11 AM and 4 PM. Visit early morning before 10 AM or after 3 PM when temperatures are cooler and parking is more available. The lagoons face west, making this an excellent spot for sunset viewing year-round. While the calm water reduces typical ocean hazards, the rock barriers can be slippery when wet, and the shallow areas heat up significantly during midday hours. The paved resort path connects all four lagoons, making it easy to explore and find a less crowded section.
