Punaluu Beach Park

Punaluʻu Beach Park is a County beach park on the windward coast, a narrow strip of land between Kamehameha Highway and the shoreline. It has a comfort station with showers, and picnic tables throughout the park. A shallow reef fronts much of the park, and north of it a deep sand channel cuts through the reef. The park is not on the State's list of lifeguarded beaches and the City lists no tower here, so if in doubt, don't go out. On this windward shore, strong trade winds can whip up large, rough waves. The shoreline is eroding, and large storm waves sometimes wash over the park and the highway; a State commission is studying ways to restore the beach.
