Hau Bush

About This Place

Hau Bush sits along Ewa Beach's coastline where a healthy reef system creates one of Oahu's most accessible shore diving spots. The site takes its name from the hau trees that line the entry point and provide natural shade while you gear up on the exposed lava rock. This site suits intermediate to advanced divers who can handle moderate currents and navigate the rocky entry over lava rock and coral rubble. Sturdy dive boots are essential. The reef drops to about 40 feet with visibility typically reaching 60 to 80 feet on clear days. You'll encounter green sea turtles, white tip reef sharks, and schools of tropical fish including yellow tangs and moorish idols moving through the healthy coral formations. The current runs parallel to shore and strengthens during incoming tides. Check conditions before entering and track your position relative to the entry point throughout the dive. Early morning from 7 to 10 AM offers the calmest conditions and clearest water before trade winds create surface chop. Park along the residential street near the beach access, but respect local parking signs and avoid blocking driveways. No entry fees apply at this public beach access. Bring plenty of water and snacks since no facilities exist on site. The exposed lava rock becomes extremely hot by midday, making early starts essential for comfort. Weekdays see lighter crowds than weekends when local dive groups regularly use the site. Plan your exit before the rock heats up and conditions deteriorate.
