Pyramid Pinnacle

About This Place

Pyramid Pinnacle sits off Waianae's west shore as one of Oahu's premier advanced diving destinations. This underwater seamount rises from 100 feet to within 45 feet of the surface, creating dramatic drop-offs and swim-throughs that challenge experienced divers. The site gets its name from the pyramid-shaped rock formations that dominate the underwater topography. Strong currents sweep nutrients through the area, supporting abundant marine life including white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, and schools of barracuda. The deeper sections often host larger pelagic species like manta rays and occasional whale sharks from December through March. This dive suits advanced and expert divers only. Currents can be unpredictable and strong, requiring solid buoyancy control and experience with drift diving techniques. Surface conditions change quickly on Oahu's west side, so check weather and surf reports before heading out. Most dive operators launch from Waianae Harbor between 6:30 and 7:30 AM when conditions are typically calmest. Afternoon trade winds after 11 AM often create rough surface conditions that make the return trip uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous for smaller boats. Park at Waianae Boat Harbor where spaces fill up by 6 AM on weekends. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, plenty of water, and a hat for the boat ride. Charter fees typically range from $120-180 per person for a two-tank dive. The site offers its best visibility from April through October when south swells are less frequent, though winter months from December through February provide better chances for manta ray and whale shark encounters.
