About This Place

Three Tables Beach gets its name from the three flat coral formations that rise from the sandy bottom just offshore. This North Shore snorkel spot attracts swimmers seeking calm water when the famous surf breaks are too rough for water activities. The protected cove offers excellent snorkeling for beginners and families. The coral tables create natural barriers that block much of the wave action, making the water gentler than nearby beaches. You'll find tropical fish, green sea turtles, and healthy coral formations in water that stays relatively shallow at 10-15 feet. The sandy entry makes getting in and out easy, even for kids. Park along Kamehameha Highway and walk down the short sandy path to the beach. No entrance fees apply, and the beach stays accessible year-round. Morning hours between 8 AM and 11 AM provide the best visibility and calmest conditions before afternoon trade winds pick up around noon. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, snorkel gear, and water shoes since coral and lava rock line parts of the shore. The shallow reef extends within three feet of the surface, so watch your fins to avoid damaging the coral. Strong currents can develop outside the protected area near the coral tables, so stay within the cove's boundaries. Winter months from November through March bring larger north swells that can make conditions rougher and more dangerous. Summer from May through September offers the most consistent calm water. Check surf reports before visiting, as even this sheltered spot becomes unsuitable when major swells hit the North Shore. Local lifeguards are not stationed here, so swim with caution and bring a buddy.
