Here's the thing about Oahu – most visitors only scratch the surface. This Rainforest to Reef tour: Half-Day adventure changes that, taking you from the misty Koolau Mountains down to Waikiki's coral reefs in one incredible 5.5-hour journey.
We'll pick you up in Waikiki and shuttle you up to Puu Ohia, sitting pretty at 2,000 feet in the Koolaus. That's where the magic starts – a 5-mile downhill coast on KHS cruiser bikes through genuine Hawaiian rainforest. The paved roads make it easy, while our guides share stories about the geology and point out views that'll have you pulling over for photos. Trust me, seeing Honolulu spread out below you never gets old.
After the ride, we'll zip you over to Kewalo Basin where the second half of your Rainforest to Reef tour: Half-Day experience begins. Our 38.6-foot catamaran Kahala Kai – powered by twin 140hp engines and featuring a Bose sound system – becomes your floating base for exploring Waikiki's underwater world.
From the water, Diamond Head (we call it Leahi) looks completely different. You'll snorkel in the same warm waters where green sea turtles (honu) cruise by like they own the place. Keep your eyes peeled for spinner dolphins (nai'a) – they love playing in our wake. Between December and April, Pacific Humpback whales (kohola) put on quite a show.
This family-friendly adventure welcomes all ages and handles groups up to 42 people. Everything's included: bike, Bell helmet, professional guide, snorkel gear with bleach-cleaned masks, plus drinking water and fresh water rinse on the cat. Two restrooms onboard keep everyone comfortable.
Starting from $120 per person (kids 13 and under), just bring your camera, swimwear, and towels. The only thing not included? Getting back to Waikiki from Kewalo Basin – it's about 2-4 miles, easy enough by rideshare or bus.
