This tour from North Shore Surf Girls takes place on the Anahulu River near Haleiwa Harbor on Oahu's North Shore. Participants meet at the river's mouth, then paddle upstream through a mix of fresh and salt water as the river narrows into a stream, before turning around and following the gentle current back to the starting point. A stand-up paddleboard is provided, and life jackets are available as needed.
Instructors are former pro surfers and trained lifeguards who focus on skill, safety, and helping paddlers fall in love with the sport in a supportive, family-style atmosphere. Green sea turtles may surface or bask along the riverbanks during the paddle, though sightings depend on conditions.
Bring a swimsuit or surf shorts, a towel, sunglasses, a hat, and reef-safe sunscreen without oxybenzone. Cash for a tip is appreciated. The tour is weather dependent, and route conditions can vary. Gratuity for instructors is not included in the booking.
