These 2-hour sessions welcome complete beginners from age 3 and up – no experience required. The world famous North Shore is probably one of the best spots in Hawaii to learn how to catch your first wave. Your lesson starts on the beach with essential groundwork: reading the surf zone, understanding wave timing, and learning proper surfing etiquette that locals respect. Professional instructors break down the fundamentals, from paddling techniques to that crucial moment when you transition from lying down to standing up. They offer private, semi-private, and small group options, tailoring each session to different learning styles and comfort levels. Once you're in the water, instructors provide gentle pushes to help you catch your first Hawaiian wave while prioritizing safety above all else. They'll adjust their teaching approach based on your progress, covering everything from proper positioning to mastering the timing that separates successful rides from wipeouts. All surf lessons Haleiwa include quality ST longboard equipment (other board types available on request), protective rash guards, and thorough beach instruction before you paddle out.
