When you're ready to experience the real deal on Oahu's North Shore, the Moniz Family /VS Surf Lesson in Haleiwa delivers authentic Hawaiian surf instruction that locals trust. Born and raised in these waters, our instructors combine traditional Hawaiian surf knowledge with beginner-friendly teaching methods, welcoming surfers ages 1-100 to catch their first waves.
Your 1.5-hour adventure starts at 101 Ulunui Ave with a solid 5-10 minute beach tutorial. We'll cover the essentials: paddling out without getting destroyed, turning your board, wave selection, and how to fall safely. No question goes unanswered before we hit the water together.
Using the safest beginner soft-top boards, you'll paddle out with your instructor right there beside you. In the small waves, we spot the perfect rides and give you precise timing cues for when to start paddling. Need a little boost? We'll provide that gentle push and call out exactly when to pop up. Between waves, expect personalized tips that actually improve your technique.
Most students nail their first wave and ride 10-20 waves during the session. Group sizes max out at 16 participants, ensuring you get proper attention with our 1:4 instructor-to-student ratio.
Strong swimming skills are required for group lessons, though private sessions work for those needing extra water confidence support. Your surfboard and surf shirt are included – just bring your swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, snack, and water. Check in 15 minutes early at the Family Shop, already sunscreened and ready to go.
