Lanikai Beach in Kailua looks out at the Mokulua Islands offshore. You reach the sand through public shoreline access points, and there is no public parking lot for the beach.
There are no restrooms, showers or lifeguards, so bring water and shade, and if in doubt, don't go out. This is the windward shore, where strong trade winds can whip up large, rough waves.
Parking is restricted in Lanikai on weekends and holidays, and on long holiday weekends the City bans parking on the unimproved shoulders of every local street. TheBus runs from Kailua town to Lanikai by way of Kailua Road and Kailua Beach Park, which saves hunting for a space.
