PADI Advanced Open Water Certification
The PADI Advanced Open Water Certification course offered by Hawaii Dive Center in Honolulu is designed to build on the skills a diver already has after earning a PADI Open Water Diver certification. Despite the name, no prior advanced experience is required. The course is structured to help divers grow, log dives, and explore new specialties under the supervision of a PADI Instructor. Participants work through Adventure Dives covering skill areas that include Deep Diver and Underwater Navigator. Each area develops practical capabilities and gives divers new ways to enjoy scuba diving. The course runs every day of the week and meets in Honolulu. The course is open to PADI-certified Open Water Divers, including younger divers who have earned a Junior Open Water Diver certification. Someone who has just finished their Open Water certification can sign up right away without waiting. It suits divers who want to gain experience in different specialties and build confidence under professional instruction.
Shipwreck & Double Shallow Dive
The first dive visits a wreck, with depth ranging from the shallower to the deeper end of the listed range. Oahu's waters hold a variety of wrecks, including massive fishing trollers, minesweepers, and WWII planes, and the site visited can vary. The second dive moves to a shallow reef, and the third dive is spent surrounded by underwater wildlife. Encounters on the shallow dives often include sea turtles, eels, reef sharks, and eagle rays. This tour runs every day of the week and meets in Honolulu. It suits divers who want a mix of wreck exploration and reef diving packed into a single day on the water. Because weather conditions directly affect whether the boat goes out, Hawaii Dive Center makes weather calls on the day of the dive, so flexibility on a traveler's schedule is helpful.
PADI Open Water Certification
This PADI Open Water Certification course from Hawaii Dive Center takes participants through the full process of becoming a certified scuba diver, starting at Magic Island in Honolulu. The program moves through three phases: a knowledge development section covering scuba fundamentals such as how pressure affects the body and how to plan a dive safely, a confined water session where students practice setting up gear, clearing a mask and hovering, and finally open water checkout dives in the ocean. Both e-learning and instructor-led options are available for the knowledge development phase. Rental gear including an exposure suit, BCD and regulator is provided, but students are asked to bring their own mask, snorkel and fins, since a properly fitting mask supports better learning and comfort. Once all skills are demonstrated successfully in the ocean, participants receive their certification card. The course is open to children and adults, with a small student-to-instructor ratio throughout.
Shallow Reef Dives
Shallow Reef Dives takes place on the reefs around Oahu and is run by Hawaii Dive Center, located on Ala Moana Boulevard in Honolulu. The dive sites change with the season: summer dives head to the North Shore, where divers enter from shore and explore lava tubes, while winter dives reach the reefs by boat, depending on weather conditions. The trip suits divers of all certification levels, though Open Water Divers in particular will find the shallow depth a comfortable fit for building confidence. Because of Hawaii's geographic isolation, a significant share of the marine life here exists nowhere else on earth. Meet at the Hawaii Dive Center shop before the dive. Weather can affect whether shore or boat access is possible, and weather calls are made on the day of the dive, so travelers should be flexible about conditions and plan accordingly.
First Time Scuba Divers!
First Time Scuba Divers! is an introductory scuba program run by Hawaii Dive Center on Oahu, designed for people who have never dived before, hold no certification, or simply want to get back in the water after a long break. No prior experience is required. The program is not a certification course, but it covers the steps needed to dive safely and comfortably. Instructors supervise each participant closely throughout the experience, keeping the group at a manageable size. Participants may encounter Hawaii green sea turtles, reef-dwelling eels, reef sharks, and fish native to Hawaiian waters. One important restriction to know before going: PADI standards prohibit introductory divers from bringing any camera equipment, including action cameras like GoPros, into the water during the dive. The program runs every day of the week.
